From May 2001...
The Return of...
Canadian National 3254
This locomotive has been undergoing a substantial rebuilding in the shops at Steamtown National Historic Site since the summer of 1998.  These photographs show her appearence during the second week of April, 2001.

While most of the heavy work has been completed, with the locomotive even being painted during late March, several tasks remain.  Items such as a locomotive speedometer and second water level sight glass are being added so that this magnificant 85 year old machine will comply with new federal regulations covering the operation of historic steam locomotives.

Since these photographs were taken, the locomotive has been moved inside the roundhouse building.  Additionally, the locomotive's side and main rods, not present in these images, have since been re-installed.
Update...CN 3254 Has Returned to Operation!!!
After several weeks worth of dissapointments and mechanical problems, the 3254 returned to service Friday May 11 making several short trips within the city of Scranton.  The locomotive is seen here on the 3pm "shuttle run". With an older style livery and new whistle valve the locomtove looks and sounds different.
