Taylor Yard & Northbound to Clark's Summit

Taylor Train Watching
While most of Taylor Yard is inaccessable, the south end is a great location for train watchers.  Locomotives will often tie up near this location, northbound trains often hold for a signal and southbound trains often stop for refueling (as do the northbounds).  The Taylor local is based here and does switching from the south end and uses the former DL&W station as their office.  DL and R&N local trains also frequent the yard.  Four NS trains pass through the yard on a daily basis as well

All this action can be taken in, legally, from an overhead ridge adjacent to a back alley and a road which leads to the yard itself.  Do note that the public road ends at the tracks, if you go over the tracks without permission, you are tresspassing!
Ocassionally an unusual engine will appear on the local freight.  Behind the first unit is a former B&M GP-40 in patched Guilford paint.  (5/01)
Another good vantage point is the public road that overlooks the south end of Taylor Yard.  In the upper right is the former DL&W  freight station.  3/96 The same train on the left tied up for lunch, as viewed from the public road. 3/96

A great deal of the freight moved over the former D&H is now intermodal, in the form of containers and truck trailers.  Here a southbound intermodal departs Taylor.  (2/94)
Power from Canadian Pacific subsidiary SOO Line also frequents the former D&H main.  Here a set of SOO SD-50's powers a southbound freight. 11/93 At the same location we see the local job preparing to depart Taylor with a former D&H GP-38 in the lead.  (4/00)
North to Clark's Summit
A rare solid lashup of 3 SD-40-2F's pulles north from Taylor as seen from the Lackawanna Avenue overpass 5/06 Here we see a northbound freight struggling to crest the grade at Clark's Summit with a typical lashup of SD-40-2's.  (8/96) Several NS trains were routed over CP Rail in 2001.  Here we see a southbound NS 40T in West Scranton.  4/04
Taylor Night Life...
Due to the accessablity of Taylor Yard and the common practice of laying-over motive power at night it is easy to spot locomotives there at all hours.  With a tripod and a little enginuity anyone can create an impromptu night photo session with the ample ambient light present.
