"the" Delaware - Lackawanna Railway
Foreign Power
DL/CP Grain Trains
The Delaware-Lackawanna Railway, under an agreement with Canadian Pacific, operates unit grain trains between Scranton and Pocono Summit, PA.  These trains often field a variety of interesting power, in addition to the ever-present CP SD-40-2.  All Photos by Dave Crosby unless noted otherwise.
A typical grain train is seen drifting downgrade into Scranton.  This view is taken from the parking deck at the Mall at Steamtown. Bill Boock (7/01) CP dissels past and present meet as a grain train passes DL's former CP Rail C-424's. (4/01)
Here we see four common SD-40's at the Myrtle Street grade crossing on the Pocono main line. (11/00)
Occasional gems will appear on DL grain trais, as in the case of D&H 7312, leading a Mt Pocono bound train at Bridge 60. (8/01) Canadian National widecabs and a CP counterpart, at Bridge 60 waiting for permission into Taylor Yard. (11/00) Another unusual set of wide cab units is this former Conrail group, now owned by LMS, a locomotive leasing company. (5/01) Photo by Bill Boock
Old meets, well less old, as 35 year old, diesels pass a 1923 steam engine. (8/98) Perhaps the most rare motive power yet on a grain run is set of GE "High Nose" B23-7's seen here at Bridge 60. (7/98) Once almost common on D-L grain trains were SD-50's from the SOO Line, now just a memory on the DL. (4/01)
A typical lashup of SD-40-2's in mixed and fading paint schemes passes Moscow station. (8/01) An less common SOO Line liveried SD-40-2 leads a grain train through Elmhurst, PA. (10/98)
This rare appearence of NS wide cab units on a D-L grain train was captured heading back to the CP at Bridge 60. (8/02)
Three CP Rail SD40-2's epitomize the typical grain train, seen here exiting the Nay Aug Tunnel.  (7/07)
NS 41T
On Several Occasions during 2003, NS Train 41T was re-routed over the DL due to construction work along it's normal NS/R&N/CP routing.  The 41T traversed the entire Pocono Main during the early-moring hours each day (making photography a challange).  Here are a few images captured of one of the detoured trains.
Viewed from the old DL&W Interlocking tower at East Stroudsburg.
Passing the restored Gouldsboro station. Downgrade at Moscow station.
Passing through Winton, almost in Scranton.
