"the" Delaware - Lackawanna Railway
Leased Power & Guests
Despite owning a fleet of ALCo's second to none, occasionally, through lease or other agreement, a guest locomotive will appear on DL property.  All photos by Dave Crosby unless otherwise noted.
For a number of years the D-L leased former D&H RS-36 #5019 from a group of private individuals.  This unit has since left the property, but still operates in New York. (8/97)
ALCo #5 in Steamtown yard after snow storm.  This unit now hauls tourists on the Upper Hudson River RR. (2/94) NPS Photo by Ken Ganz.
One of the first engines used on the DL was former ALCo plant switcher #5.  The engine, seen here at the Steamtown shop, left the property in 1997. (6/94) NPS Photo by Ken Ganz
C-424 5204 was also leased from the RCT&HS.  Here the 5204 handles a trainload of plywood for one of several lumber customers on the D-L. (10/02)
Leased from the Reading Company Technical & Historical Society, Reading 5308 is seen with DL 3643 making a test run on the Carbondale line from Bridge 60, looking north.  (8/01) RDG 5308 and DL 3643 return with empty grain cars for CP interchange at Bridge 60. The big C-630 would stay on the DL for several months doing revenue work.  (9/01)
Former NYC E8 fresh out of D-L shop on display at Steamtown.  This unit was restored as a contract job and was not used on the DL.  (8/95)
