The Luzurne and Susquehanna Railroad operates on several dozen miles of track in Luzurne County.  The main interchange for their handful of customers is at the Pittston Yard of the Reading and Northern Railroad.  This ex CN unit was used for a time but has since left the property.  Circa 1997.
The L&S 30 is a former Boston and Maine SW-1.   She is seen here in 2001 after bring aeveral plastic cars for interchange with the R&N.  Not actually owned by the L&S, the 30 would later be leased for several months by the DL to serve customers on the Laurel Line.  The 30 was later been returned to its owners, RMDI of Pittston after the DL aquired an appropriate sized switcher.
For a number of years the L&S, therefore units could often be seen tied down on the L&S main in the city of Pittston.  Here L&S 50 is the subject of an impromtu night photo session in 1999.  A proper engine house has since been erected to the right of this photograph.
The Lackawaxen and Stourbridge was a shortline that operated out of Honesdale, Pennsylvania with this former Santa Fe CF-7.  Honesdale is also the home for the Stourbridge Line Rail Excursions that operate with a rare BL-2 locomotive.  Regretably freight operations ceased when attempts to revive the line's sole customer failed in the Fall of 2002.  This view dates from happier times in 1993.  Excursions continue to be operated by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.
The North Shore operates along the former DL&W Bloomsburg Branch between Bloomsburg and Berwick, PA, amongst other lines.  Here we see a Lackawanna-liveried SW-7 heading north through Bloomsburg, PA in 1999.
Please note this page has no official association with any of the railroads represented here.
