| Between 1989 and 1992 Steamtown National Historic Site operated excursion trains north between Scranton and Kingsley Pennsylvania and Occasionally Binghamton, NY on trackage operated by the Delaware and Hudson Railway and later Canadian Picific Railway. This afforded passengers a scenic mainline ride and included the famous Tunkhannok Creek (aka Nicholson) Viaduct. Upon completion of repairs to the Pocono Main Track, Steamtown returned to operating excursions east to Moscow, PA on trackage operated by the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Occasional railfan specials to Binghamton NY afforded the opportunity to "turn" locomotives south for better photo ops. CP 2317 is seen near Hallstead PA in 1991. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| CN 3254 is seen on the D&H main at Bridge 60 and is heading towards the passenger platform at 7th street. As seen here in 1990, the engines faced north on regular excursions. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Runbys on the "High Line" | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Steamtown's 1990 "Photographer's Weekend" was the first and perhaps best railfan event yet in Scranton. In addition to runbys and excursions on the D&H main, a series of photo ops on the Old DL&W "hi-line" in the Scranton yard would set this year apart. For over an hour, in perfect sunlight, CN 3254 and Baldwin Locomotive Works 26 would execute runbys against the backdrop of the old Scranton skyline. These images are no longer possible, as the buildings and the "high-line" were removed to make way for downtown mall. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
